The Treasury has confirmed that the Money Advice Service (MAS) will not be allowed to advise on simplified products, which a government steering group will develop.

Some of the responses to the consultation warned that allowing MAS to recommend simplified products would be beyond its remit of giving generic non-product specific advice.

Financial secretary to the Treasury, Mark Hoban has announced the formation of a new steering group who will devise a range of simple financial products. The group will initially focus on simple deposit savings and protection and insurance products.
