As part of the Mortgage Market Review, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) is proposing that mortgage brokers will no longer be able to arrange deals for clients on a non-advised basis.

All intermediation, whether carried out face-to-face or through any other form of correspondence, will be considered an advice process and the intermediary must assess whether the product is appropriate for the client.

According to Paul Broadhead, head of mortgage policy at the Building Societies Association, while the move to a mainly advised market would be simpler for consumers, it would have an affect on business models in the sector that will need to be assessed.
