18/01/2012 - FSA To Review FSCS Funding

FSA To Review FSCS FundingFSA To Review FSCS Funding.

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has confirmed it will undertake a review of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) funding during the first half of 2012.

One idea for consultation is a product levy where product providers would set certain funds aside based on the products they offer. This proposal has received mixed reviews from the industry, with some likening any such product levy as a financial transaction tax by another name. Others have called it a tax on consumers.

Something has to be done because the current system is unfair to the industry. If you fall into a fee block then you have to pay into the FSCS, even if you do not offer or advise on a particular product.
